Bitterroot Commences Airborne VTEM Survey at Mineral Creek, BC

Bitterroot Resources Ltd.'s (TSX Venture: BTT) geophysical contractor Geotech Ltd. has started a high-resolution airborne VTEM-LITE Time Domain EM survey over the 100 percent-owned Mineral Creek property near Port Alberni, British Columbia. The 400 line-kilometre survey will cover parts of the property which contain large untested zinc and copper-in-soil anomalies that are prospective for volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralization in Sicker Group volcanic rocks. The Sicker Group also hosts the +30 million tonne Myra Falls polymetallic (zinc/copper/lead/gold/silver) VMS deposits which are located 80 km northwest of Mineral Creek.

Over the past five years, the Mineral Creek property has been explored by Bitterroot for high-grade gold deposits. Previous owner Westmin Resources Ltd. and its partners spent over $14 million exploring for gold at Mineral Creek in the late 1980's, after initially being attracted to the area by the presence of Sicker Group volcanic rocks and the inherent base metals potential. In 2010, data from this previous exploration work was compiled by Bitterroot's geological consultants into a GIS database. The data compilation has highlighted the extent of the untested zinc- and copper-in-soil anomalies and potential for additional high-grade and bulk-tonnage gold deposits. Both the existing gold targets plus EM conductors (base metals targets) resulting from the current VTEM survey are planned for drill-testing in the 2011 field season.

The airborne electromagnetic survey will be flown with 100-metre line-spacing, along 400 line-kilometres, to help outline VMS targets associated with the copper and zinc-in-soil anomalies. There are several known base metals occurrences within the survey area. The Debbie #3 showing comprises stratiform mineralization in altered basalt with up to 14.1% zinc and associated lead and copper, over a width of 0.2 m. Approximately 300 m west of this showing, there is an untested north-trending, 200 metre-wide pyritic alteration zone located along trend from linear EM and IP anomalies, all of which are coincident with a 300 metre-long zinc-in-soil anomaly. To the southeast, semi-continuous copper and zinc-in-soil anomalies extend along strike for over two kilometres. The area of these anomalies has been logged recently and prospecting of new bedrock exposures has determined that follow-up geophysical surveys are warranted.
